Explore Waldoboro’s historic village in a novel way through this interactive, semi-guided experience designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and connection. This is neither a traditional walking tour nor a standing lecture—more a playful walking meditation, a bit of collective poetry in motion, a place-based quest that unfolds on your terms.
At the starting point, participants will receive a village map and a scavenger hunt bingo card, then set out to explore a series of sites throughout the village. Each square prompts you to engage one or more of the five senses—sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste—inviting you to notice, interpret, and experience each place from multiple perspectives.
Along the way, you may pick up on the rhythms of the river and its layered ecological and economic life, catch traces of the town’s shipbuilding past, respond to historic buildings and their stories, and discover newer spaces bringing fresh energy—and more joy—to life in a rural, coastal Maine village. Mostly, though, this is about paying attention: tuning into moments of quiet interest or unexpected delight, and noticing your relationship to the natural and built environment.
Waldoboro’s historic village is rural in parts and uneven in places. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Hills happen. Sidewalks appear and disappear. Not every spot is accessible—we’ll do our best to note these on the card. Permission to improvise as you go.
