Meet the Farwell Project volunteers at the Thorndike Mill & Meeting for lessons on tree identification and a tour of the historic Farwell buildings. Farwell’s was established by Oscar J. Farwell in 1873 in conjunction with the construction of the Belfast & Moosehead Lake Railroad. The general store and grain mill provided agricultural access between northern farms and central Maine ports.
From the Mill will will travel down the road to the Marie Gloh Park to hear about current Town of Thorndike projects from town committee members and practice our tree identification skills with licensed forester Allyssa Gregory. Get involved with your community, stay current on local events, and learn how to identify the Forest Trees of Maine.
Light refreshments will be provided at the park. Please wear comfortable walking shoes, sun protection, and insect repellant.
Accessibility:
Some portions of the historic building will be inaccessible to wheelchairs. Participants will walk along a road with orange vested volunteers navigating/checking safety conditions. Car and bike parking are present at both the Mill & Marie Gloh Park. There is no public transportation in Thorndike.
