Cruising Down Church Hill Road in Leeds

Painting of Church Hill Road by Nancy Brackett

Let’s take the historical journey from the two churches on the hill down to the elaborate Hilhome in Leeds Center, exploring some of the most impressive homes in town and listening to the interesting stories of those who occupied them. The year is about 1900, and all the trees that now block our view down to Androscoggin Lake were gone. Come hear about the rivalry of the two churches, see glass negative slide printouts of a described “mansion” on top of the hill and, at the bottom, the barns that burned and the home of a doctor who still evokes strong memories.
