The tour will include a discussion of the evolution of a 24-acre parcel of land on the East End of Chebeague Island that was home to generations of Indigenous inhabitants before being developed as a salt water farm. The property was also the site of fish houses, a steamboat wharf, a cottage development, recreation facilities, and a World War 2 installation.
During the walk, the built landscape will be discussed and locations of former structures identified. The walk will include the background and stories of some of the people who lived there. Attendees will leave with an understanding of how change impacts tracts of land. Copies of a pictorial narrative will be available for those who pre-register by emailing cihsresearch@gmail.com.
