A Traverse Through the Square: Exploring the History of the Heart of Maine’s Oldest Town

The walk will be with an architectural historian, me, who lives in the area and will focus on exploring the evolution of Kittery Foreside from its days as a commercial fishing outpost to its boom during WW2 with the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard to its decline in the late twentieth century and its resurgence today. The tour will largely focus on the stories of the buildings that we’ll visit including Warren’s, the First Congregational Church, The Oddfellows Block and more.

The tour will be contained largely to Wallingford Square.
